Iga Świątek with a radical decision regarding her staff? "I think she would be a completely different person"

Iga Świątek has become accustomed to the fact that in virtually every tournament she competes in, she is automatically considered one of the favorites to win the final. However, looking only at the numbers, the Polish woman has been waiting for over a year to win the final of any competition. The last time Świątek lifted the cup was at Roland Garros 2024.
Maciej Synówka interestingly talks about the realities of Iga Świątek's functioningIt is no secret that the only 24-year-old athlete has had to endure a lot in the second half of the previous season. Starting with a positive doping test result, a forced suspension, ultimately explained by a contaminated batch of melatonin, the fault of the melatonin manufacturer.
In addition, a change of coach, parting ways with Tomasz Wiktorowski and opting for a new, foreign solution, for the first time in her career. Wim Fissette, a Belgian with vast experience, became the Polish player's coach. And finally, the loss of the number 1 spot in the WTA ranking due to slightly weaker results achieved by Świątek .
All of this has certainly had an impact on the tennis player herself, although she seems to be getting back on track. Changes in the coaching staff? Coach Maciej Synówka gave an interesting opinion in an interview with Piotr Karpiński from Eurosport. Currently, he does not work as a coach, but has been functioning in the tennis environment for years, currently more in the role of an expert and co-commentator.
– What would happen if Iga fired her entire staff today and went solo until the end of the year? She would do her own warm-ups, she had to think it all through, no one would be watching her. Every win is hers, every loss is hers. Every contact with the media is hers. Every injury is hers. We have to cope. I think she would be a completely different person. There is no space to do it at all […] It would be harder for her, maybe easier, she would definitely develop thanks to it. It's not about firing these people in particular. It's about changing her environment dramatically. Let's just remember that she is also a professional tennis player. She has multi-million contracts. This is one of her dilemmas. How do I give up something, a pattern of functioning that has given me so much, when I don't know that it can be done differently? Because if you know that you can do things in different ways, you consciously choose how you want to do it. Consciously knowing what you're leaving behind. It's a completely different thing than when you have one way of doing things and someone from the side keeps telling you that you can do it differently. These are two completely different things - Synówka assessed in the next episode of the Eurosport Podcast.
Let us recall that in her last appearance, Świątek reached the semifinals of the Grand Slam at Roland Garros. The Polish player did not defend her title in Paris, losing for the first time since the 2022 edition. The conqueror turned out to be Aryna Sabalenka , world number 1 in the WTA ranking. However, the Belarusian ultimately lost in the final to Coco Gauff.
In her career so far, the Polish player has won a total of 22 championship titles on courts almost all over the world.
Świątek has won five Grand Slam titles, four times at Roland Garros (2020, 2022, 2023 and 2024) and once at the US Open (2022). In addition, she won the prestigious WTA Finals (2023).
In addition, wins in WTA 1000 tournaments, respectively in: Rome (2021, 2022, 2024), Doha (2022 and 2024), Indian Wells (2022 and 2024), Miami (2022), Beijing (2023) and Madrid (2024).
The list also includes WTA 500 competitions, in Adelaide (2021), Stuttgart (2022 and 2023), San Diego (2022) and the aforementioned Doha (2023). Plus a Polish accent, WTA 250 in Warsaw (2023).
After the Olympic tournament in Paris (2024), the bronze medal of the games should be added to this list. The first medal in the history of Polish Olympism drawn from competition on tennis courts.
